Is there a huge difference between Intel’s i7 and i5 CPUs ?

admin answers:

The features overlap a lot. The fastest Core i5 is a better CPU than the slowest Core i7. But, generally speaking, there are two main differences between most of the Core i5 CPUs and most of the Core i7s.

First, the Core i7s usually have a triple-channel memory controller. This both makes it easier to attach more memory and makes memory accesses faster.

Second, the Core i7s usually support hyper-threading. This allows for some types of software to run quite a bit faster. Right now, this is mostly limited to a small number of video encoding application, but over the next few years, I would expect more CPUs to support this.

Of course, the highest Core i7 has 6 cores. Also, some Core i7 CPUs have AES NI instructions, which can speed up encryption applications by a huge amount.

How much of a difference is there between i5 and i7?

I’m getting a laptop for college and I have 2 of them in mind. I won’t go into specifics to much, but the only major difference between them is one is i5 while the other is i7. I do some gaming on my laptop, but i don’t really need top of the line, just enough to get by. Other than that I will probably use it for studies and research papers. Is the upgrade to i7 really worth it or should I save money and go with i5?

Whats the difference between i5 and i7 processers ?

I know little to nothing about computers.
Thank you in advance…

admin answers:

The i7 uses hyperthreading on it`s die. So each die has 2 cores instead of one. Giving it 8 cores total. The i5 does not have it making it just a newer quad core. So that is why the i7 costs so much more then the i5. But in most real world apps you wouldnt notice the difference with the 8 cores because most programs dont know how to take advantage of them yet.

what’s the difference between i5 and i7 quad core processors?

and i3? they’re all quad core processors so what’s the diferrence?

admin answers:

Actually, the i7 processor hit the market first, so the i5 is the newer processor.

The i7 is the more powerful of the two, with twice the processing threads and three DDR3 memory channels. Read up.

End of line
