DENTISTS/ SCIENTISTS? Is this whitening gel still good after ~10 years?
My dad bought Rembrandt Lighten Bleaching Gel (2 oz. bottle) about ten years ago. I wanted to use this product because it did a phenomenal job with his teeth, but I wasn’t sure if the chemicals became harmful over the span of 10 years. Here are the ingredients:
Carbamide Peroxide
Carbomer 940
Glycerine
Trolamine
Extra info: By DenMat and is No. 03752
I wouldn’t recommend using this product after 10 years, mainly because the active ingredient of Carbamide peroxide will have decomposed. By decomposed I mean it will have broken down over time not that it will have rotted.
I would recommend buying a new lot of whitening gel, or accepting your teeth the way they are. Whenever someone starts a whitening routine I recommend taking a photograph before with a colour reference in the picture. Dentists can use shade guides but you could use a white object which you can keep and repeat the photos as you undergo the treatment so you can see the difference. Often people get frustrated that the whitening isn’t working when in actual fact the tooth shade has changed a lot but over a long period of time.
Good luck.
