What exactly is teeth whitening?
I don’t want it because I don’t need it, and I know it’s when they make your teeth whiter but my friend was telling me today to whiten your teeth they take the top layer off your teeth. Is this true? I always though they painted special white stuff on your teeth. So now I was wondering which one is true, if either. If neither, how do they do it? I’m just curious!
They use an oxidizing chemical that reacts with the junk on your teeth to remove it. In some cases they use light to make the reaction faster.
The problem with teeth whitening is that the oxidation not only hits the discoloration on your teeth, but everything else as well. Every company I have spoken to about it has denied that there is any negative effects, but have been unable to provide any data to support that claim. So, until that time comes, I’ll live with slightly off White Teeth.
There is also a “whitening” procedure that uses an enamel. This isn’t painted onto your teeth, but is rather like a fake front glued on. It seems safe, but at the same time you have half fake teeth in at that point.
